Originally from Richland, WA, Annemarie received a B.A. in Physics with a Mathematics minor from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI (2007). She received an M.S. in Physics (2010) and Ph.D. in Physics (2015) from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Her Ph.D. work focused on steady-state and time-resolved polarization-dependent optical techniques at low temperatures and in applied magnetic fields in order to study the optical, magnetic, and electronic anisotropies of low-dimensional condensed matter systems. Her current research interests concern defect engineering in solid state systems, particularly those of low dimension, with applications towards biological sensing.
